Thank you for being a friend of Lead Safe America! Our documentary feature film, MisLEAD: America’s Secret Epidemic is an outreach and education project of the Lead Safe America Foundation.
Many people have asked how we plan on using the Kickstarter funds if we reach our goal of $60,000 & the project funds (we only get the funds if we reach our goal so this is an important distinction) – so we decided to post our breakdown of anticipated expenses here. This may not be exact (as some funds may come in in the meantime from grants and other expenses may come up or be different than what we have anticipated), but it details how we came up with the goal of $60,000 and explains the need:
$9,000 Getty Images cost (generously discounted from approx. $26,000 in image fees)
$4,000 Additional editing costs (includes Getty image, music and animation placement)
$7,000 New York one-week Oscar qualifying run & related expenses (minimum)
$7,000 Los Angeles one-week Oscar qualifying run & related expenses (minimum)
$3,000 Advertising, marketing, e-mail campaigns, poster & DVD art design, & website redesign
$16,000 Picture finishing (local Portland finishing house estimate)**
$4,000 Music rights budget (we’re working on getting as much music as possible donated)
$1,000 Festival submissions (apprx. $100 ea.)
$3,000 Initial DVD printing & distribution
$1,000 Preview Screenings coordination
$5,000 Campaign expenses
**sound finishing is being donated & remaining animation is being donated
Overall this $60,000 is really a minimum needed to cover finishing funds, and of course does not cover any salary or artistic fee for our Director, Tamara – so ideally we would like to raise more than $60,000—and will also be continuing fundraising through avenues other than Kickstarter, so we can increase the budget for some of these items as funds become available.
If you would like to make a pledge in support of the work of the Lead Safe America Foundation through Kickstarter (our Kickstarter project ends 12/31/2013) – here’s that link.
If you prefer not to set up a Kickstarter account or don’t have an Amazon account and would prefer to make your end-of-year tax-deductible contribution to LSAF directly – through PayPal or with a credit card – our “Donate” button and information about where to send a check can be found here.
As Lead Safe America is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and MisLEAD is a project of Lead Safe America – all contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law.
Thanks again for your support in 2013!
