July 31, 2016 LSAF Update

Dear Friends,

    Since the very beginning, we have been telling truth to power—hammering home the need to face up to the unpleasant truth about the real scope of this national disaster and the urgency of getting the heretofore “invisible” lead (“hiding” in plain sight all these years!) out of our children’s environments —calling out the widespread ignorance, incompetence and corruption, button-holing journalists and policy makers and insisting that they add this issue to their “radar” and their agendas before millions of additional children are added to the multitudes – across several generations – that have needlessly been poisoned by exposure to lead— in their homes, schools, daycares, houses of worship, community centers and playgrounds in this country! 

     Those thousands of conversations, hundreds of outreach events and dozens upon dozens of media interviews (and resulting news stories)—as well as the very strong grass-roots social movement we have built together  fostered a sensitivity and created a contextual foundation for understanding what is unfolding today in the news across the land.

      The seeds we have sowed over the past five years have indeed taken root and are now beginning to bear fruit. But there is so much work to be done: in this time of great upheaval and profound challenges, against a cultural backdrop of short attention spans, rapid news cycles [fueled by the pressure to retain or grow “marketshare” to satisfy  advertisers and media ownership amidst an ever-more-fragmented “market”] and the constant speeding up the “tempo” of daily life and endless multiplication of distractions, we cannot let up, but rather must ratchet UP the collective volume of this message that so many forces—ranging from merely inept to genuinely sinister—work to silence/drown out!

     We are truly at a critical time for the growth of the organization, and to keep up with the public demand for straight facts about lead and so many families’ need for support we truly need your partnership at this critical juncture.
